The goals of ARISE are to
experience the Word of God in Sacred Scripture and to develop vibrant
communities of faith and service. Though the entire parish experiences
ARISE through Sunday Mass and other activities, a focus of
the ARISE process is the formation of small groups which
meet weekly throughout each six-week ARISE Season.
Participants read, reflect on, and discuss Scripture sharing their own
personal insights.
“For where two or three are gathered
together in my name, there I am in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20)
During the first several seasons, our parish
had 20 different ARISE groups. There were groups of all
different types: mixed, women only, men only, and couples. A few
neighborhood groups formed around a nucleus of friends; in other groups
participants barely knew each other when the season started. Some met in
homes, others chose to gather at the parish.
All groups had one thing in common:
They told us what a great experience
it was to participate in ARISE.
Here are some of the comments we
received from participants:
“It has made me more mindful about
living my faith.”
“I feel more connected to the people I
see at Mass each Sunday.”
“It offers a support and has a calming
affect. It helps me to put important things first. “
“When we resolved to do something in
the Invitation to Act …, the feeling was great.”
“A better understanding of how Christ
is in all of us.”
‘Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take
courage, it is I; do not be afraid.”’
(Matthew 14:27)
No matter where you are on your faith
journey, whether or not you have studied the Bible or are knowledgeable
about the Catholic Faith, there are no right or wrong answers.
ARISE is an invitation to participate, to build community, to
learn from each other, and to share our gifts.
