Simply put, a Novena is a series of prayers made over nine consecutive days for a particular intention (petition or thanksgiving). The Novena to the Holy Spirit is the first and oldest Novena. Its roots take us back to the Acts of the Apostles, where we find that the disciples devoted themselves to prayer while awaiting the fulfillment of the Lord's promise to send the Holy Spirit.
