Our group is in its third year. We usually meet the third Tuesday each month, in the Seton Room from 7:00-8:30 PM, but check the bulletin for special dates. The Women’s Group is open to all women in the parish 18 years or older.
The Women’s Group is meant to be a stress free, laid back, social and charitable group. In the past we have had hands on activities, guest speakers, wine socials, movie night, and a spa night. We have done various service projects for Pregnancy Care Center in Haverhill and the Wish Project in Lowell along with contributing as needed to church events and charities. In the spring we organize and host a Spring Tea for women in the parish. Sometimes we just sit and talk.
We have recently started a Prayer Shawl Ministry. A Prayer Shawl or Comfort Shawl is given to those in need of comfort from a physical or emotional hardship, or, it can be given to someone celebration a joyful event. The shawls can be knitted, crocheted, woven or quilted. Prayers for the recipient are said before, during, and after the shawl construction. The hope is that when the recipient wraps the shawl around them they will feel God’s loving arms enfold and comfort them and our prayers and caring thoughts surround them in peace. Our plan is to have the shawls blessed in the spring and fall, before they are distributed. For more information about prayer shawls see The Shawl Ministry at www.shawlministry.com. If you are interested in making a shawl at home, we have yarn, patterns, fabric, and prayers available. Please contact Jean Tornatore (email above) for more information.
The activities that we share are secondary to our mission to support one another as Catholic women. As we gather, we are mindful of Christ’s presence in our lives and we celebrate this common bond by sharing our time and our talents with one another. We welcome you to join us when you can and to share your talents if you wish.
